Watching a movie is really a great experience and far better than watching at home with your 12 inch or less television. Why? Because not only you’ll watch with the big screen, but a movie house provides us the best ambience for relaxation – an air-conditioned place, a comfortable seat, and of course a cola drink and a bucket of popcorn! J
Popcorn would always pop up in our mind and interrupt the film. I remember times, when I get so addicted with the cheesy popcorn and barely see the exciting scenes. There’s something about it that when people watch a movie they would automatically think of popcorn. I don’t know about you, but I personally love the pops and think that eating them is a great way to escape the scariest or the undesirable part of a film.
Correspondingly, my behavior toward popcorn depicts my behavior towards self-centeredness. Food could actually be termed as self- pleasure. Our mouth will always demand for something to eat which we can’t resist. We want to feed the hunger of the mouth – fill the need, like my early relationship with God that centered between me and Him.
But God taught me something. Just this year, I have experienced so many down falls in terms of souls. January 2009, my dear classmate killed herself by a gun. I was new in our class, being an irregular student. I had so many so-close encounters with her – but I was driven by the mindset that “I’m still adjusting.” “I can’t get close to anyone that early.” “Maybe it’s not the ‘right’ time- because I don’t feel good or comfortable yet.” – So many excuses that falls into one ground- “Myself.”
That’s why when I learned she died, I couldn’t help myself to cry in brokenness and regret and asked God, “why didn’t I?” “Have I failed to hear His voice and was overwhelmed with mine?” L
Two weeks after my classmate’s death, another girl from our neighborhood also committed suicide and this time she hanged herself. I didn’t know how to react. The kids within our vicinity which is also part of my small group (in bible study) are confused and one of them prayed to God and told Him what she could do. And this same person received a dream from the Lord that the girl in our neighborhood was in hell asking for help. But she couldn’t do anything, all because time has run out.
And February 2009 someone very close to my heart passed away. I was about to visit him but when the time of our visit was moved to the day I had a scheduled quiz in school, I didn’t go to see him, only to find out that the next week after that, he passed away two hours after I got to sleep not even praying for him.
That was really a turning point for me. I was broken in spirit and couldn’t help to mourn for them – even if it was too late. I didn’t even know how to move on. But what God told me is vital, He told me, if all of them would be given a chance to go back in this world, even for a moment, they would all say the same thing.
It is this, “Receive Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior – because He is the Only Way to heaven.”
Then I remember God’s word for me when my loved one died, “God doesn’t want anyone to perish.”
Do you want to know the very heart of God? Do you want to know God’s weakness? It’s the lost.
God’s passion is the lost. Have you ever tried looking back to who you were in the past? I know that all of us will fall on the same pattern of story – “we’re all once lost” but God used someone to touch our lives. Someone who loved God so much, that he or she was willing to die in his reputation to reach out to us.
How many more souls should pass by you every day only to find out that their time is running out? How many of them should die and suffer eternal separation from the Lord – all because they have not yet heard and received the gift of salvation (found in Christ Jesus) – all because no one else dared to take courage and do so?
Our life is short and time is running. And if you are sitting today asking God when is the time to speak that testimony out. When is the time to stand up for Jesus – I am here to tell you, “now is the time of God’s favor. Now is the day of salvation.” (Isaiah 6:2)
Set aside your popcorn. Start watching and look closely to the movie God is showing you in this world. Think about the people in the film whose heart is screaming for God. They long to know God – they long to get out of the ‘Drag Me to Hell’ movie list and get into the book of life.
Take a stop in your own life – hear the voice commanding you “Go.” “Snatch others from the fire and save them.” (Jude 1:23). Hear the hearts of people shouting “Drag me (not) to (but out of) hell! Never miss the chance of a life time. After all, when you’d go to heaven – God won’t ask you about anything except for the souls Jesus has trusted you to work on.
