Hi there, hope you are doing great as you read this post. This was such a nice day for me just knowing that today is a thanksgiving day for the whole congregation in our church.
How about you? Did you truly enjoy the sunday service praising God at the top of your voice, listening to your pastors’ sermon, learning something new on discipleship lessons etc…
A sad truth is that most christians go to church heavily burdened. Instead of thanking God first, they murmur towards God. In our church, many members go to service full of problems. They seldom give encouragements because all they think of and share are their struggles.
I learned something valuable today which I believe would bless you and open your minds. As I was reading the book of Psalms, there was a verse that really strucked me. I stopped thinking for a while and smile afterwards.
Psalms 13:2:
How long must I wrestle with my thoughts
and every day have sorrow in my heart?
How long will my enemy triumph over me?“
Sunday service is meant for thanksgiving. Obviously, that is the reason why it is coined as “Thanksgiving Sunday.” Unfortunately, we give much attention to sorrows and forget about thanking God. Yes I believe all of us have struggles in life but it should not stop us from thanking God. I still remember the sermon of our pastor this morning, he said that the enemy (devil / satan) wants to ruin our life that’s why he plant seeds that would destroy us. For example, seed of division, seed of doubt, seed of sorrows, seed of lust and many more. As I read this verse from Psalms, the word of God was very personal to me. Just like any other individual, I was in a sorrowful state earlier. However, God made me realize that this is not about the enemy alone, but ourselves.
How long will we wrestle with our thoughts?
How long will we believe on the lies that the devil puts on our minds?
How long will the enemy triumph over us?
Daily Devotion Conclusion:
We choose how we live our life everyday. If you want to be happy, you can be happy. In fact, happiness should be evident in our daily lives because the fruit of the spirit is joy in our hearts
At times that you are being filled with sadness, despair and sorrows, rebuke it! Don’t let it succeed in destroying the wonderful day God has prepared for you.
It’s now time to stop wrestling with our thoughts and giving God the control over our life. Make it your goal to really thank God on thanksgiving sunday instead of feeding your minds with sorrows!
