Fear Of God Brings Wisdom

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.

Psalm 111:10 (New International Version)

I heard this verse when I was in high school. Back then, it has no use for me. I attend church because my parents brings me with them just like any other child. I never memorized it but for some reasons, it’s one of those verses I can’t forget.

Yesterday, as I was following my daily bible reading plan, I came across this verse and accepted it with a very different perspective unlike before. Here’s why:

Since the time I became serious in reading God’s Word and following His plans for me, I always asked God to give me wisdom I need to survive this dark world. I’ve been struggling like any other christians because no matter how we choose to live right, the devil will always put us in a danger zone for us to fall into temptation and struggles.

Most people believe that wisdom is given as we asked God. However this verse totally teaches us something new about gaining wisdom. The bible clearly tells us that “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom.”

You know why? It’s because the moment we fear God, the pride that we carry vanishes. If before, we value the way we think and how we think as if we are more wiser than God, now the fear of God put us into a very humbling situation. We ended up crying out to God desperately because all we know is that apart from God we are nothing.

The fear of the Lord creates a vacuum inside our hearts and minds which the Word of God only can fill it.

Daily Devotion Conclusion:

We are not as wise as we think. We are all a bunch of losers who found victory because of God. All we need is God’s wisdom and it starts when we fear the Lord.
